True Anomaly Modernizes Space Command

True Anomaly is a defense technology company focused on space security and resilience. I worked with them to design a command and control (C2) system that lets flight controllers manage a fleet of autonomous spacecraft with the assistance of AI.

Problem Statement

How might a single operator effectively manage a fleet of Autonomous Orbital Vehicles (AOVs) in a contested environment with the assistance of an intelligent AI co-pilot?

challenge icon

Challenge

Traditional Command and Control (C2) systems are often composed of legacy, fragmented systems and depend heavily on manual labor from flight operators. As space security becomes increasingly complex, True Anomaly required a modern, automated Command and Control (C2) system capable of efficiently scaling to manage multiple simultaneous space missions.

Solution

Through a human-centered design approach, I collaborated closely with Operations, Engineering, and Product teams to design a C2 interface. This system lets spaceflight operators issue high-level, mission-based commands, which the software instantly converts into precise, automated spacecraft actions. By abstracting complex execution tasks, we delivered an AI-augmented system that substantially increased operational speed, accuracy, and safety.

Results

The new C2 system was fully designed and delivered within four months, well in advance of the launch of the Autonomous Orbital Vehicles (AOVs) on March 4, 2024,
