PwC gives their team the tools to visualize their workflows

PwC Consulting Services works with some of the world’s largest and most complex companies to understand their unique business issues and opportunities in an ever-changing environment.

Managing and tracking the day-to-day deliverables of consultant engagements is crucial. Hence, the consultants asked for a highly flexible and customizable tool to manage their deliverables.

How can PwC consultants have more flexibility in tracking their day-to-day deliverables?

Outcome

I designed and incorporated a Kanban board into a project management tool to boost the productivity of the PwC consultants. The Kanban board allowed the consultants to easily assign and prioritize work using a visual format. The consultant teams recorded all their work items on cards and moved them across the board as they progressed through the project's phases. Each group was able to customize the board to fit their needs.

Design Challenges

  • Since the Kanban board was integrated into an existing project management tool that included a List and Gantt view, I closely coordinated and harmonized our work with other design teams to deliver a consistent user experience across the application.

  • Kanban boards are usually associated with agile and software development projects. During the discovery phase, I learned that nontechnical teams were familiar with Kanban and were interested in adapting it to their workflows.

  • The user research helped me identify our target audience; short-engagement consultant teams used inadequate tools to manage their projects. They requested for better tools to track and coordinate client deliverables asynchronously.
